No Matter What You’re Going Through, Please Be Gentle With Yourself 🤍
'I hope you remember that you’re doing the best you can with the resources you have.'
Welcome to the Collective World X Thought Catalog Newsletter. Collective World is a one-of-a-kind creative network powered by the minds and voices behind The Thought & Expression Company. We’re so glad you’re here.
The truth is, we’re all going through something. It may not be the same thing as the person next to you, or as your friends, or as the rest of your family; it may not be something you’re ready to talk about with anyone in your life yet. But know this: We are all experiencing the ups and downs of life together, even when you feel alone in it. We are all just doing the best we can.
It’s easy to look at your own life and feel like you’re not measuring up to everyone else. It’s much harder to view your struggles through a lens of compassion and grace. But darling, I hope you try.
I hope you remember that difficult times rarely bring out the best in us. And that’s okay—it’s unrealistic to believe that you’ll always be at your best. What’s important is that you learn from your past mistakes and try to do better the next time around. Just don’t beat yourself up over them for too long—there is no good in holding on to something that will only hurt you more than it helps you.
I hope you remember that you’re doing the best you can with the resources you have. Hindsight will trick you into believing you could do better, but the fact is that we’ll never have all the answers when we need them. There is humanity in our ignorance—do not punish yourself for not knowing then what you do now.
I hope you remember all the people you have forgiven throughout your lifetime, then remind yourself that you deserve that forgiveness, too. You shouldn’t be harder on yourself than you are on your loved ones, because the love you have for yourself should be just as sacred. Learn to hold the same space for yourself as you would a beloved friend.
I hope you remember during your most difficult days that you are trying. Sometimes that’s all you can truly ask of yourself. Sometimes that’s all the bandwidth you have to give. Let that be enough for now.
No matter what you’re going through right now, please be gentle with yourself. Remember that you are not just the sum of your bad days—you are all the goodness, all the happiness, and all the lightness, too. And you are beautiful all the same.
